Young playwright performance

Young+playwright+performance

Since October, the Acting 2 and 3 class worked with TheatreWorks Silicon Valley playwright-in-residence, Annika Nori Ahlgrim, to create original 10 minute plays.

The students worked with playwright-in-residence, Annika Nori Ahlgrim. Ahlgrim led the students through creative writing exercises, teaching the fundamentals of playwriting and sharing her knowledge of theater.

The students then used what they learned, each writing an original one-act play over the course of eight weeks. These plays were described as “daring and bold, tragic and funny; all pushing the boundaries of what’s possible to do on stage.”

Professional actors and directors were brought in to help the playwrights’ vision come to life and “mold and shape their artistic visions”.

Tuesday night’s presentation was expressed as “the culmination of months of hard work for the dedicated students, and they finally shared their creativity.”

The seven students that participated were Lizzy Kundrat, Henry McKellar, Connor Rodriguez, Greg Steiner, Tanner Thompson, Sara Twigs, Josie Walterskirchen.

TheatreWorks hopes that by working with these students they will “encourage and nurture the next generation of American playwrights by giving them meaningful interaction with professional artists to aid in their development and growth.”
